Hello everyone,

Bit of a photo overload but once I get started

Jasper has been with us two months now and we decided at the weekend that it was time to try him off lead. We were advised by the vets that saved him that he shouldn't be let off lead at that time, as he didn't come back when called, but he has settled in so well and become so much more responsive and I've been working on recall on lead/in the garden etc.

So we tried him off lead with Minnie and our collie, with hubby at the ready (he can run faster than me - anyone can run faster than me) and in a field surrounded by other fields.

Jasper was fab, we were armed with lots of praise and tuna cake and he came back each time. He has clearly decided we are his family now

Some photos from his first off-lead adventure ... it was a rubbish day, weather wise, but the grin on his face made up for that!

On my way mum!

Having a shake

and some from the last few days when it's been lovely and sunny ...

Our best attempt at a group shot LOL

Young at heart?

Posing :)

Sorry for all the photos but I think it's so lovely to see him enjoying life, thanks to the vets and Oldies Club, after what almost happened to him.

A final photo of Mins, who is looking fab :)

Angela

Wonderful photos. Would you just look at that tongue in photo 2. Isn't it just the greatest feeling when they are so happy.

Thank you all for your lovely comments :)

Couple more from yesterday:

I hope showing people how happy Jasper is will encourage others to think about adopting an older dog (though as someone pointed out, he doesn't seem to realise he's meant to be an "oldie" ).

He gets so excited when it's time for a walk, starts jumping up and down, very sweet!

And another of Mins for her admirers:

Jasper definitely was not ready to go to the Bridge.
Love the "oldies" Angela.
They have so much to offer.

Lovely!

It amazes me how dogs are classed as 'oldies' even at 7 years old. Lizzie is 7 this year and is still behaving like a pup!
My mother in laws dog is 14 and he still runs round like a mad dog when he gets the urge. He has occasional days when he's a bit stiff and wobbles on his back legs but has never ailed anything.
The 'oldies' are great as they're already trained and usually less work!

xx

I totally agree Anne-marie, it has always puzzled me how a dog is classed as an oldie at 7. Charlie will be 7 this September, and people often ask me if he is a puppy still, lunatic that he is
I suppose it is likened to calling someone OLD at 50

I wouldn't know, I've noy got to that age yet!

I called in work on Thursday when I went to collect Rachel. As I sneaked in through one of the classrooms one of my colleagues (who is in her late 20's) gave me a big hug. One of the kids asked her if I was her mum
I know I've been through the mill the last few months but I didn't think I looked that rough!! Everyone keeps telling me how well I look!

xx

Thank you all :)

Oldies Club helps "older" dogs which is the best way to describe them for me as some are still very young and active at heart and others are real oldies. All my dogs other than Mins are "oldies" now but I don't really think of any of them as "old", apart from Jasper to an extent, who seems a bit older than the others.

Talking of Jasper, we took some video of him yesterday enjoying running around in the sunshine, hope you enjoy :) If anyone is thinking of adopting an adult dog, or you know someone who is, do check out the Oldies Club website http://www.oldies.org.uk - lots of lovely dogs of all breeds/types who very much deserve a second chance. Just like Jasper who was very nearly put down just before New Year.

I don't think I can embed a YouTube video on this forum but you can view it here:
